FAQs

Who is Burt & Associates?
Burt & Associates is the best accounts receivables and financial services company in the nation, period! We pride ourselves in the passion of our professionals, in the speed in which we get you results and the solid reputation we have built in 30 years in business. We are not a fly-by-night or an untested new organization. With our management team’s combined experience of over 125 years, we are solid, strong and we are there when you need us.

What are your rates?
At Burt & Associates, we succeed when we produce results for your business. While we value results over our rate structure, be assured that there are no up-front fees or hidden charges. Our simple, straightforward fee structure is based on our success at recovering debt for you and the date of the debtor’s last sale or payment. Call us now to give you a free and competitive quote.

How do you communicate with debtors?
Our team of professionals is highly-trained and possesses a solid understanding of commercial law. These skills are used strategically and through timed letters and an aggressive--yet professional and diplomatic--phone campaign to achieve success. Demand letters are sent every ten days, phone calls are made everyday, and personal visits are made when needed.

At what point should we refer an account to you?
The sooner you refer your accounts receivables the better. The probability of recovering on a debt diminishes at a rate of approximately 1% every 3 days, or about 10% every month. Most of our clients send us their accounts when they reach 75-90 days old. If you submit your account information to Burt & Associates prior to 90 days past-due, you can expect a 65-75% success rate. This rate varies depending on the back-up information we receive prior to processing the account.

What information and back-up do you need to begin processing an account?
We’ll need the debtor's name, address, phone number, contact person, and the debt amount owed to begin the process. However, any additional information you may have, such as the fax number, home address, phone number and/or any signed contracts or personal guarantees are also extremely helpful. When placing an account with us online, please provide as much information as possible in the remarks section. No detail is too inconsequential.

Do you have a minimum account size or number of accounts?
Every company faces unique challenges. That’s why we offer accounts receivables and financial solutions tailored to fit your needs. Burt & Associates will work on any size account, and we do not require a minimum number of accounts.

If you do not collect, do you refer the account to an attorney?
Any unrecovered commercial account exceeding $1,000.00 is automatically forwarded to our Legal Department for review. At that point the client is advised of the collectability and potential additional costs associated with that account. If approved, the account is then referred to a licensed and bonded attorney in the debtor’s area. Our Legal Department then acts as the liaison between you and the assigned attorney.

Do you handle bad checks?
Yes. If the bad check meets certain criteria, it is submitted to the local District Attorney’s office for legal processing. If it does not meet such criteria, then it is referred to our normal collections department for processing.

Do you report the debtors to the credit bureaus?
After obtaining written permission from you, Burt & Associates will report all unpaid accounts to the credit bureaus, adversely affecting the debtor’s credit report. Commercial debtors are reported to Experian while consumers are reported to Transunion. Burt & Associates does not charge for this service.

What online services do you offer?
We offer the most sophisticated Internet technology in the industry. As our client, you may access our secure Website to manage your accounts. In this secure environment, you may print a variety of customized reports to suit your company’s needs. You also may view any notations, add your own notes, make changes to accounts, and much more. We can arrange to have an icon placed on your desktop for quick and easy access to your accounts. We can also communicate with you through our Website. When we need a response to an inquiry, you may be notified by a flashing icon on your account page.
