Stimulus Money. Did you know about it?

Karen Mills, Administrator of Small Business Administration (SBA), was at International Franchise Association Convention Monday to discuss ways both the agency and the Obama administration are working on to further encourage lending to small businesses. These efforts, Mills says, include asking Congress for additional funding for its loan programs.In February of 2009, the SBA received $730 million in federal stimulus funding as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. However, this wasn't’t enough to meet the loan demand and in December, the SBA received an additional $125 million from Congress.

Commercial Collection Agencies, on Red Flag Rule?

In Monday’s, 11/2/09, issue we reported that enforcement of “Red Flags” Rule would take affect this week and that credit department heads should heed the rule, which requires any firm extending credit to have an “identity theft plan” in place. The Federal Trade Commission, in charge of implementing enforcement of the new rule, has once again announced another last-minute delay of enforcement. This fourth delay by the federal agency comes after a federal court ruled the FTC could not make the rule stick amongst attorneys and after a bill, passed by the House, which could allow for exemptions for certain industries.
