Montana Debt Collection Tips
In a time of growing debt, increased bankruptcies and every changing economy, Burt & Associates is launching a community service campaign to educate high school students about credit and debt management. At no charge to schools, we have developed materials that will aid teachers and parents in teaching financial literacy before the students get out into the real world. Information such as managing a credit card, opening a checking or savings account, protecting and building your credit score and buying your first car is explained in detail and at a level with which the teen can identify. A new form of credit building called "piggybacking" is also explained.
"Piggybacking" is a great way for a parent or other relative with excellent credit to pass their credit history to their teen. It is done by adding the teen to a credit card as an Authorized User. Once this is done, the "Piggybacker" will receive the same credit history as the cardholder. You don't even have to give them a card! After a few months of reporting, the cardholder can remove the additional Authorized User from the account, but their credit history will remain. This method is an excellent way to help your child establish credit history or nourish an unhealthy FICO score. Beware, though, of those who wish to profit from this. Many people have begun "renting" their credit scores by charging fees to allow "Piggybackers" on their personal cards.
You can find out more information about our program on our website.

Educational Tidbits For Today's Credit Executive
Small Business Owners Cautiously Optimistic
A recent survey by Visa Small Business' Spend Insight revealed that the nation's small business owners are cautiously optimistic about the future. While more than 58% of the small business owners surveyed expect to reduce their large capital investments, more than 40% expect to reduce their smaller capital investments. Less than half expect revenues to increase over the next six months and nearly a quarter of small business owners expressed concern that increasing mortgage costs could have an impact on their businesses.
Are more of the nation's small businesses funding their operations through the use of credit cards? According to Visa, the average credit card transaction for such business expenses as advertising, publishing and public relations increased 8% for the twelve month period ended 6/30. In addition, while over 40% of the small businesses surveyed anticipate an increase in both profits and revenue in the next six months, more than 70% also expected an increase in energy costs.
